Gravelbourg Elementary School Main Entrance

Architecture, Gravelbourg, Historical Site

The former Couvent Jésus Marie was designed by a prominent French Canadian architect, J.E. Fortin. The school’s exterior and interior illustrate Classical Revival influences exemplified in its symmetry and immense proportions. However, the front entrance’s architectural details are influenced by the dramatic style of the Baroque period. The grand staircase and reception area portray an air of opulence.

5 x 7 fine art greeting cards, featuring the image titled Gravelbourg Elementary School Front Entrance are available for purchase at Café Paris in Gravelbourg, SK.

Entranced by rural and urban decay. I am drawn to these forlorn sites because they emote conflicting sentiments of beauty and disintegration.
